“When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow in humble
adoration, and there proclaim, My God, How Great Thou Art”
God, in his infinite wisdom knew Mable was tired. So, at home on January 31, 2022, at approximately 3:14pm. Mable Lee Draft, quietly and peacefully wandered down a shadowed path to a land we cannot see; that silent path each one of us must walk alone. A life loaned to this world is now returned.
Mable Lee Draft, the daughter of the late Howard and Mattie (Gant) Williams, was born September 23, 1921, in Lexington County, South Carolina. Mable was one of eight children blessed to this union, seven of which preceded her in death; sisters, Inez and Lizzie; brothers, Allen Sr., Amos, Clarence, Johnny, and Richard.
Mable was nurtured in a Christian home, and loved the Lord, she received her education in Lexington County Public School system, Leesville-Batesburg, SC.
She was united in marriage at an early age to the late Julius Draft, Mable continued her life and moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she, met the man she would spend the rest of her life, Jasper “Jack” Carter whom also preceded her in death.
Mable’s love of her life was her three kids, Willa-Mae Jackson, Jeanette Cornish, and one son Gregory Draft Sr., Mable was employed for many years with Cuyahoga County Public School System, where she later retired to enjoy her Grandkids. Arnettis Cornish, one grandchild who preceded her in death.
Mable was a devoted grandmother who showered her grandchildren with unconditional love and support. Mable was truly the virtuous woman described in the book of Proverbs. She walked the earth touching the hearts of everyone she met, brighten their days with her kindness and smile, sharing words of wisdom and lifting their hearts with her laughter. “Granny” as we all called her, was truly the matriarch of the family. Granny raised one of her great grandchildren Dominique Bradley, Granny was an awesome woman. Mable instilled her love of music and dancing in everyone, the moment she heard music she was up and shaking.
As she journeyed though her wonderful 100 years of life. St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church was where she planted her feet for many years. “Granny” lived to see four generations of Grands and loved every minute of it. She loved motorcycles even attempted to ride one in her old age. There was nothing “Granny” as we called her didn’t like, but as we send her home, one of the joys she will take to her grave, is yelling for “Mae”. It didn’t matter what, when, or why all she had to do was yell “Mae”.
Mable leaves to cherish her memory a long list of family and friends: A devoted an beloved daughter Willa-Mae Jackson, Jeanette Cornish her beloved daughter from Columbia, SC, a loving son, Gregory Draft Sr., (Rosalind) from Baltimore, MD; 11 Grandchildren Latoya, Deonna, Dana, Steve, Jerome, Dwight, Dwayne, Gregory Jr., Domonic, Jamar, Antoine; 42 Great Grandchildren; 18 Great-Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Great Grandchild; nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
