Mae Evelyn Hollis of Akron, Ohio transitioned peacefully from her home to God’s celestial shores on March 29, 2026. Mae was born May 8, 1929, in Randolph, Alabama to the parents of J.D Boykins and Letha Lancaster. As a young girl she moved with her family form Alabama to Massillon, Ohio. She later moved from Massillon to Kent, Ohio.
While living in Kent, she met and married James E. Hollis on June 1, 1949. To this union two daughters and four sons were born. Not only did she raise her 6 children, she was helpful in raising two nephews and a niece.
Mae worked as a short order cook in Kent. After her marriage to James, she moved to Akron, Ohio and worked at Garver’s restaurant and later she worked at Woolworths, downtown Akron and Chapel Hill where she retired after 25 years.
Mae’s most precious moments were working in her garden beside her family and growing beautiful flowers.
Mae accepted Jesus as her Lord and savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over 75 years. As a member, she served as a youth Sunday school teacher, President of the Usher board, Deaconess, and feed my sheep ministry.
Prior to her call home to glory, was the passing of her mother and father, Husband James E. Hollis and daughter-in-law Milred Hollis: She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughters Julie (Jerry) Simmons, Fay Knox; Sons Ray Hollis, Albert Hollis, Dennis (Denise) Hollis, and Robbie Hollis all of Akron, Ohio; Nephews: Charles Brown, Edward (Alina) Brown of Newport News, Virginia; Beloved nephew and niece Darell (Phyllis) Hollis.
Grandchildren: Deon Alexander, Jaleia Jones, Durrell Hollis, Dierre Clift, Jeremy Hollis, Travis Knox, Dale Knox, Jerry Simmons Jr., Tanqueray Hollis. Great Grand Children: Monae Jones, Iyanna Jones, Amber Alexander, JaeLynn Knox, Le’Aire Knox, Durell Hollis Jr.
