Celebrating the Life of Maggie Lee Winston

Maggie Lee Winston, entered into her eternal rest on July 10, 2026, at the age of 83.

Maggie was born on August 23, 1942, in Sawyerville, Alabama, to the late Curtis Lee Winn and Lula Winn. She was raised in a loving home where faith, family, and hard work formed the foundation of her life. As a proud African American woman, Maggie embraced her heritage with dignity and grace, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

At an early age, Maggie confessed her hope in Christ and united with New Hope Baptist Church in Sawyerville, Alabama. Her unwavering faith remained the cornerstone of her life, guiding her with compassion, humility, and strength through every season.

Maggie received her education through the Greene County Public School System in Alabama. She later dedicated her life to serving others as a teacher’s aide, where she was admired for her patience, kindness, and genuine love for children. Throughout her career, she helped nurture and inspire countless young minds, making a meaningful difference in the lives of the students she served.

She was united in holy matrimony to Charles Winston, with whom she shared a loving and devoted marriage until his passing. Although no children were born to their union, Maggie’s heart was large enough to embrace generations of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends as her own.

After spending her early years in Alabama, Maggie later made her home in Garfield Heights, Ohio, where she continued to touch lives with her warm spirit, gentle wisdom, and caring nature.

Outside of her professional life, Maggie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved bowling, gardening, taking leisurely rides, and listening to the blues. Whether tending to her flowers, enjoying music, or sharing time with loved ones, she found beauty in everyday moments and spread that joy to everyone around her.

Maggie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Winston.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted nieces, Cheryl Tarrance-Somerville, (Sam) and Michelle Somerville (Chaz), one sister in law, Jean Thomas, along with her beloved nieces and nephews Sheena, Chauncey, Chanard, Brandy, and Shayla; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; sisters-in-law; extended family members; dear friends; and a host of loved ones who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and kindness she so freely shared.

Although Maggie’s earthly journey has come to an end, her legacy of faith, compassion, service, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The lessons she taught, the encouragement she freely gave, and the lives she helped shape will remain a lasting testament to a life beautifully lived.
