Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5
On March 2, 1932, Magnolia DuBose was born to John and Beulah DuBose the youngest of 14 siblings in Montevallo, Alabama. God moved in her life and the blessing of the Lord was upon her as evidenced by her achievements. She earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Alabama_A&M and her teaching credentials from Alabama State Teachers College. She then taught at Autauga Ville Training School and served as the senior advisor there.
Later she relocated to Akron, Ohio with her husband and son Michael. It was here that Magnolia encountered the Lord Jesus Christ when she repented and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Her 50 years of walking with the Lord, marked her highest accomplishments as she served others in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies…She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands…She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. Proverbs 31:10,13,20
The Lord also blessed her to start her career with the Summit County Community Action Council as a Coordinator of Parent and Volunteer Program. She then had the opportunity to work with the Summit County Cooperative Extension Service of the Ohio State University as a supervisor of aides in the foods and nutrition program. Then from 1980-194, she was a Head Start Nutritionist for the Akron Summit County Community Agency Action Agency. Sis Davis was also instrumental in establishing a Head Start Center at Zion Apostolic Church in Akron, Ohio.
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. Strength and honor are her clothing: and she shall rejoice in time to come. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31: 21,25-27.
Not only did Sis. Davis excel in her career aspirations but she abounded as well in her home, neighborhood, and church. She was known for canning, freezing and always having food on hand for her family and others. She was renowned for her culinary skills and was also featured as “Cook of the Month” in the Akron Beacon Journal. Her house became the “go to place” for out of town guests, visiting evangelists and neighbors and friends. She ministered to others through food and instructing others in the ways of the Lord.
…a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Proverbs 31:30b
Sis. Davis received the Lord Jesus as a result of the witness of her sister Gertrude Smith and her brother-in-law Nathan Smith. On May 25, 1970 she was baptized in the Holy Ghost as evidenced by speaking in other tongues in her sister’s basement prayer room. Afterwards, she was baptized in Jesus Name. After that she plunged into Bible study, various Bible classes and endeavored to make her “calling and election sure…” She then applied her gift of teaching by using it in teaching Sunday School to the 10th graders for many years. She also taught the adult classes of the Bible Survey class and a Teacher Training course in conjunction with Berean Bible School.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed: her husband also. Proverbs 31:28
