Margaret Louise Upton, affectionately known to her family as Nana, was born December 20, 1928 in Fairmont, West, VA to Coleman and Helen Catherine King who both preceded her in death. Margaret was one of 11 children; Naomi Warren, William King, George King, Norman King, Virgil King, Kenneth King, Grace Hubb, Alphonso King, Robert King, and Mary Garner, who all preceded her in death. Margaret attended Dunbar High School in Fairmont West VA, moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1946 and worked at University Hospital and then for the National Cleaning Company. She had many jobs throughout her life time. She loved the lord and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Cleveland, Ohio.
Margaret was a caregiver to many family members. Working in the foster care system, she fostered several children and eventually adopted Shear Boyer (King). Margaret retired from the National Cleaning Company in 1995. After a few years of being retired, she returned to work as a substitute teacher for Special Ed children in the Cleveland Heights School system until 2004.
Margaret, at 75 years of age married Quinton Upton Sr. They remained together until Quinton’s death in 2015. In October 2016 Margaret moved to Germantown Maryland with her daughter and son-in-law who cared for her. In December 2022, Margaret moved again to Port St. Lucie, FL with her daughter and son-in-law where she lived for six months until she peacefully passed away July 9, 2023 at the age of 94. Margaret is survived by her four children, Dr. Rose Lee Barnes (Allen Barnes), Margaret Gray, Michael King, and Helen Upton (Quinton Upton Jr); nine grandchildren, Andre Washington, Andrea Washington, Jason Gray, Richard Gray Jr, Erica Henry, Nichole Price, Kiara Brazzle, Porcha King, and Jan Reid Jr. She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with.
