On December 27, 2021, God called Marian Jones home. He was born on August 20, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. The second eldest son of seven children, Marian was born to the late Katie (Patterson) Jones and Abraham Jones. Affectionately known as “May Boy,” those close to him knew how much he loved swimming daily at the YMCA, playing music on his acoustic guitar, and traveling to casinos, concerts, festivals & family reunions for great entertainment, laughter and food with friends and family. He was the most loving and gentle-spirited man in our family.
At 14 years old, his first job was a busboy at Corky & Lenny’s Restaurant, then he worked there off and on for 30 years as a short-order cook. He loved working at Corky & Lenny’s so much, he often spoke of buying Corky & Lenny’s Restaurant or opening his own breakfast eatery.
In 1972, he graduated with honors from Glenville High School in Cleveland, OH. As a Vietnam Veteran, he served with Honorable Distinction for nearly 2 years in the US Navy as an Aircraft Mechanic aboard the USS Hancock from September 1973 through July 1975. For over 10 years, Marian volunteered as an AA Sponsor concurrently after over 33 years of his own sobriety.
Marian obtained his Associates degree in Math, Science and Technology from Cuyahoga Community College. Previously, he worked as a Mechanical Engineer for companies that manufactured locks & computer components. Later, while semi-retired to enjoy travel, he worked for nearly 14 years at Komatsu Mining Corporation as a Machine Hobber & Operator.
Marian leaves behind, to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, his wife Stephanie (Ballard) Jones of Queens, NY; one daughter Celina Jones of Cleveland, OH; three granddaughters Tamia Jones of Seattle, WA, Taliyah Smith and Angelina Jones both of Cleveland, OH; one great- grandson Jeremiah Smith of Cleveland, OH; three sisters, Doris Jones of Cleveland Hts., OH, Robin Weatherly (Aubrey) of Edina, MN, and Marilyn Jones of Cleveland, OH; one brother Kenneth Jones (Melissa) of Cleveland, OH; and one sister-in-law Patricia (Dandy) Jones (Carliastro) of Cleveland, OH. He leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Abraham Jones of Arkansas; his mother Katie (Patterson) Jones of Amory, MS; two brothers Carliastro Jones (Patricia) and Harry Jones both of Cleveland, OH; and his nephew Maurice Jones of Cleveland, OH, a bright light who left us much too soon.
A small private ceremony will be held upon interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022.
