Marie Ann Chaney-Hubbard was born to the union of Elder Henry and Victoria Chaney in Akron, Ohio on December 18, 1937. She departed this life to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on July 25, 2026. Marie spent her formative years in Akron, Ohio where she attended the Akron Public schools.

She later married Robert Van Hubbard, and to this union were born Arico, Robyn, Brent, Andrea and Caryn. Robyn, Brent and Darelle(grandson) preceded her in death. Marie came from a large family of eight girls and two boys. The family was originally from Oklahoma but moved to Ohio where her father worked at the Goodyear Tire Company. The family never forgot their roots in Oklahoma and Louisiana, and Marie often talked with excitement about the summer travels they made to visit family in Oklahoma.

Marie was a caring Mom who wanted the best for her children and grandchildren. It was very obvious to any observer that her children and grandchildren loved her. The family met challenging times, but Marie persevered through these obstacles. She possessed a strong constitution and met life challenges that confronted her and her family. Her first employment was at the Flaherty Potato Chip Company, and she worked several jobs in between. She later retired from US Bank in 2016. For those who knew her, Marie was strong-willed and resolute.

Her word was her bond. Her no was no and her yes was yes. She also gave unselfishly to causes.

Being the youngest of eight girls raised during the depression, the family learned how to weather the storms of life and never thought they were poor. Later in life, the skills she possessed showed that she had gifts that helped them survive the depression and later life challenges. Marie learned how to make a meal stretch, sew, and was handy with making money.

Being raised in a Christian home, Marie in her adult years claimed Jesus as her personal Savior.

Later in life she felt a need to renew her covenant with God. She became a member of the Church of God, her heritage church, and remained faithful until her death. She served the congregation as its bookkeeper-treasurer for several years and in other capacities such as making dresses for brides and bridesmaids.

She passed away peacefully in her sleep to be with the Lord surrounded by most of her children and grandchildren who witnessed her transition.

She leaves her children, Andrea (Byron), Arico (Donna), Caryn (Tony), her grandchildren, Sheree (Kendric), Antoine (Gemma), Karien, her great grandchildren, Jaszeraye (Kaprice), James Ill (Ashley), Robert, Ayllin, Robyn, Raleigh, Ryan, her great- greatgrandchildren, James 4th, Nova, Lani Sheree, Emory, and Truu’ Messiah.
