Marilyn Elaine Rivers aka “Nanny” was born in Akron, Ohio on February 26, 1952, to her loving and devoted parents Ernest and Sadie Rogers. Marilyn made her transition to paradise on January 10, 2019, surrounded by her family who she loved so much.
Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, and attended Akron Public Schools where she graduated from South High School. She also attended Southern Ohio College as a business major. She was employed by Dominion East Ohio Gas Company for over 36 years before retiring. Marilyn was a songstress and enjoyed sharing her musical talents with the world. She was very involved in church and often directed the choir. Her first church home was Shiloh Baptist church and she was a current member of New Millennium Baptist Church.
Marilyn’s first love was to her family and children. She was a devoted mother who showered her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids with unconditional love. She cherished her kids and was very proud of all of them. Her children know that Marilyn was truly their Angel on Earth. She also passed on her love for music to her family.
Starting at the age of six, for decades this sultry contralto was notorious for captivating audiences when and where ever she performed. She has received numerous accolades and recognition for the way she sang and entertained. Most importantly she has been recognized for being a person who has unselfishly loved, cared for, and given to others. She lived her life serving her community as a true humanitarian. She will be remembered for her encouraging and kind words; as well as, always giving of herself. She was a strong and sweet woman like her mother Sadie.
Marilyn is proceeded in death by her parents the late Ernest Rogers and Sadie Rogers; her husband Theodore Rivers Sr. and son Theodore Rivers Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter’s Marquetta Dudley, Misty Rogers, Montoyia Rogers-Weir, Miesha (Brandon) Jones. Her special daughter Marolyn Williams, and her step-children Joyce, Robin, Hazel, Mykiah, Vaugh, Victor, Demetrius, Terrence, and Misty. Her grandchildren JaMia Truss, Asia Truss, Earl Davis Jr., Teliah Johnson, Nile Rogers, and Montell Hubbard Jr., and six great-grandchildren. Her siblings Eddie (Pam) Rogers, Clint (Roberta) Rogers, Lamar (Estelle) Rogers, Linda Rogers, and Timothy (Gwen) Rogers. Special mothers Rose Smart and Louise Nelson. A host of relatives, family, and friends.
