June 27, 1960, William and Carolyn Phelps gave birth to Marshelia, who they affectionately called “Pookie”. A daddy’s girl at heart, and her mother’s first child, she made an impact in her parents lives.
Pookie gave birth to her first child Ashley December 1st, 1983. She then began working at New York Frozen Foods with her father, where she later met her now husband Charles. Soon after they welcomed a son, Charles W. Henry.
She loved to take care of others and considered those she loved to be welcomed as her family. Pookie eventually turned her passion into a career and became a medical assistant. She did home care cases for quite some time until she decided to retire and focus on home babysitting and taking care of her grandchildren.
When she wasn’t busy taking care of others, Pookie enjoyed partying with friends and family, cooking, going to the casino, watching her daytime soap operas, and having company. Her house tended to be a haven for those around her. Everyone knew they could get a meal, a nap, or a therapy session when they came to visit.
Marshelia proceeds in death, her mother and father and her sister Rita. She leaves behind her husband: Charles Henry, her two children Ashley Phelps and Charles Henry (Ciera). Seven grandchildren: Alante, Ja’Nay, Javier, Alexia, Erycka, JaMya, Rayven, and one great grandchild Kaine. She also leaves behind two sisters, Tonia Phelps-Jones (Pete), and Veronica Phelps, as well as a host of nieces and nephew. She will truly be missed.
