Marvin Rasberry passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Marvin Lovell Rasberry was born June 9, 1941, to Waymon and Gertrude Rasberry in East Akron, Ohio. He was the second youngest of five children. Marvin attended East High School where he played football and even had the distinction of having a Hill named after him (Rasberry Hill) before graduating in 1959. He met and married Beverly Jean Brooks a year later and they welcomed two daughters Terri and Toni in 1961 and 1963 respectively.
Marvin worked at General Tire until it closed in 1982. He also worked at Firestone as a pipe fitter in the early 80’s. Additionally, Marvin spent many summers monitoring and mentoring young boys and girls as a Lifeguard at Perkins Pool. Marvin received a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Akron in 1976. He became a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. in 1983. Marvin was a Christian man who loved going to church and was a member of the congregation here at The House of the Lord. Marvin worked as a Bailiff for the Honorable Judge James R Williams (Ret.) for 12 years. He also worked as a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 before moving to Las Vegas in 2005 where he worked for SMG Realty as a Broker/Salesperson until 2017. While living in Vegas, he socialized with an amazing group of friends affectionately known as ‘The Old Dogs’.
Marvin was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns often citing Jim Brown as his hero. He also enjoyed traveling, collecting model cars and fancy suits, and was known to always dress to impress! While Marvin only had two biological children, he was a father to many and devoted years of his life helping to raise his grand niece and nephew, Verlea and Vernon. Although he didn’t have sons of his own, Marvin considered his nephews Gary and Vernon, as the sons he never had.
Marvin was preceded in death by both of his parents, brother Raymond, Sisters Gloria, Donna and Betty, niece Monica and daughter Terri. Marvin leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Toni, son-in-law Victor, grandsons Jordan and Justin, nieces Michelle, Keisha, Brenda, Verlea, Tierra and Brittany, nephews Gary, Garryson and Vernon, and a host of loving cousins, great grand nephews and nieces, and cherished friends.
