On Sunday May 3, 2020 the physical and lovely life of Marvis F. Carter-Doctor came swiftly and quietly to an end in Cleveland, Ohio. Marvis was born September 18, 1942 to the late Theodore and Mossolate Thompson Carter in McComb, Mississippi. She was the sixth of eleven children born to this union. She was a graduate of Burglund High School class of 1961 in McComb, MS. She accepted Christ at an early age at Good Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Smithdale, MS, under the leadership of the late S.J. Dickey and later joined New Joshua Baptist in Cleveland. Marvis was affectionately known as “BaBa”.
After graduation from high school, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to begin working. Marvis was employed at Eaton Corporation, Norandex, Inc., Premier Industries and Marshall’s Department Store.
In 1968 Marvis met her soul mate Lawrence Doctor. Marvis and Lawrence enjoyed a loving and devoted life together until her death. Marvis and Larry were joined together in their blessed union for over 33 years. Marvis loved fashion, decorating, music and cooking. She was an excellent cook. Marvis had personality personified. She had the ability to bring laughter, joy, and humor into almost every situation. She was a kind, loving and generous person.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Margie C. Pounds Daniels and Thelma C. Manley, two brothers, Landy (Sonny) Carter and Charles Ray Carter.
Marvis will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: husband Lawrence Doctor, six sisters, Dorothy Garner of Southfield, MI., Freddye Quinn of McComb, MS., Frankie Carter of Farmington Hills, MI. Carolyn Gray of Bloomfield Hills, MI., Linda (Sydney) Recasner of New Orleans, LA., and her very special sister Brenda Hutcherson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., one aunt Arie McKnight and two sisters-in laws, Jerzine Carter of Las Vegas, NV and Terry Carter of Southfield, MI. Also cherishing her memory is a host of dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
