On September 27, 1928, the late Rev. T. H. Hairston and the late Lorene Gray-Hairston gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Mary Alice Hairston in Crawford Mississippi. To this union another daughter was born, Ethel Will Hairston, who preceded them in death along with a son Walter Hairston Jr.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and over the years developed a relationship with Him that was real and personal.

She was married to the late Clyde Sledge Sr. and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. And to this union six children were born Carolyn, Patricia, Rose, Gloria, Clyde Jr. and Jerome.

Years later she returned to Birmingham, Alabama. On October 6, 1983, she married the late Willie James Davis Sr.

She was a faithful and active member of McComb Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Pastor Theron Hawkins in Birmingham, Alabama.

She returned to Ohio in 2011 after a tornado devastated her community.

She leaves to cherish her memory:
Six children. Grandchildren: Kimberlee, Jimmie II, Jammie, Dontae’, Patrice, Jasmine, Johanna, Sarice, Albert and Tanya; a host of great grands and great-great grands, longtime friend Viola, niece Denise/Clarence, son-in laws: Jimmie, Willie and Gerald, a host of relatives and friends.
