Maryanne Helen Prince Phillips was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late William and Delia Prince, on September 16, 1938, the fourth of seven children, James Douglas, Kirksey, Charles, Gerald, Centry and John.
Helen, as many of us knew her, was educated in the Cleveland Public School System and graduated from Glenville Senior High School. Helen accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at East Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend William M. Downs. She later became a member of Mt. Zion of Oakwood. Helen attended Artha John Modeling Agency and modeled part time in her early years. This led to her love of wearing (and looking FABULOUS!) in the finest clothes. She was also trained and worked as a dietitian at Hanna House. That is where she learned to make her signature homemade rolls everyone loved!
Our Aunt Helen enjoyed life and had traveled many places with her friends, attending sporting events such as Heavyweight Championship fights and Super Bowl games. She also had birthday parties every year… enjoying her last one hosted by her great niece “Nee Nee”
“La La”, as Helen was affectionately called by family members, was generous and kind to every-one she met… especially her nieces and nephews. She handmade each one of them Easter Baskets every year until they were 12 years old. She always encouraged them to be the best version of themselves and played a large role in each of their lives.
Helen married the love of her life, Harry Kwame Phillips who preceded her in eternal rest. Maryanne Helen was also preceded in death by her parents
William and Delia Prince; her brothers Charles, Gerald and Centry; and her sister Kirksey.
Helen leaves to mourn her passing brothers: James Douglas (wife Loretta deceased), John (Rudy), 5 nieces, 5 nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, over 35 great great nieces and nephews, a goddaughter and a never-ending list of countless friends.
