Dear Marlis, Fred and Alexander: It was a sad day when I received word that your Mother and Grandmother, Mrs. Mary Madison had passed. She was my kindergarten teacher at Outhwaite Elementary School in Cleveland. She was my favorite teacher of all time. I was honored to have stayed in touch with her all these years since kindergarten. She would always send me a birthday card on my birthday and a postcard when she was traveling. I tried to send her a birthday card every year on her birthday, June 30th. I was welcomed in her home in Cleveland Heights and your father and I became friends when we both became substitute teachers in the Cleveland and East Cleveland Schools. Your mother and I were both United Methodist Church Members and she would sometime come to worship at my church Aldersgate UMC in Warrensville Heights and I would sometime attend her church in Cleveland Heights to worship. I will dearly miss your mother as ours was a special relationship. I pray that God continue to bless you, your husband and your son and I hope that we continue to stay in touch and be friends. My sincere condolences and prayers to you and the rest to your family and may your mother rest in Heavenly Peace.

Sister Mary was indeed a dear saint. Our family has so many fond memories with her. My favorite quote was when she said in a Church Council meeting “I would rather see a church wear out than rust out”.
