Mary McClain peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on December 26, 2025. Born Mary Frances Williams on September 3, 1932, she lived a life marked by love, service, and dedication.
She was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle who lovingly raised her, Makota and Dean Holley; her siblings Margaret Chandler, Helen, Thelma, Isaac, and Theodore Williams; her beloved children, Marvin Jr. and Valerie McClain; and her devoted husband of more than 65 years, Marvin Eve McClain.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her sister-in-law, Doris Lindsey; her niece, Danice Williams, whom she lovingly raised; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold her in their hearts.
A trailblazer in nursing, Mary graduated from Harlem Hospital School of Nursing in New York and later earned a master’s degree in nursing from The University of Akron. She served as a staff builder for Akron General, where she oversaw nursing staff operations until her retirement. Her leadership and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on the healthcare community.
In the mid-1970s, Mary became a proud member of the National Black Nurses Association, remaining active until her health declined. On June 18, 1985, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., celebrating 25 years of membership in 2010—a testament to her dedication to sisterhood and service.
Mary was also a devoted member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. John M. Burrell. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her in every endeavor.
Mary McClain’s legacy of compassion, strength, and grace will continue to inspire all who knew her.
