Mary Kathryn Grogan was born on Tuesday, July 13, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the third sibling of five children born to the late Samuel and Mary Lee Grogan.
She was a student in the Atlanta, Georgia Public Schools until her family relocated to Cleveland, where she completed her formal education in the Cleveland Public School system and graduated from East High School (home of the Blue Bombers) in 1967. While a young teen, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and received the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the late Reverend Mother Georgia Lampkin of The Bibleway Church. Her Christian walk would continue under the leadership of the late Bishop James Nichols of Bibleway Church, and Bishop Leonza Ford of True Faith Apostolic Bibleway Church. In these ministries, she served faithfully as an Usher and a Missionary.
Mary would continue her education while employed at the Western Reserve Psychiatric Hospital as a Therapeutic Psychiatric Worker where she enjoyed caring for mentally patients before retiring.
During her lifetime, Mary was blessed to serve in other ministries; Pentecostal Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop J. Delano, Ellis, II. In October, 2002, she visited Cathedral Worship Center and on December 4, 2002, she became an integral part of the ministry serving as a Missionary and in the Sacerdotal Ministry until her health began to fail.
It was no secret that Lady Mary loved her parents, siblings, daughter and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed travelling to church conventions, going on bus trips to the Amish country, family cruises to the Caribbean, she even flew to Hawaii, and just loved to shop and enjoyed watching the saints children grow up and celebrated their birthdays and academic accomplishments. We will miss hearing her belting out a praise during services on Zoom or just shaking her head when The Glory of The Lord entered the Sanctuary. While enduring a lengthy illness, Mary Kathryn answered the call of our Commander-in-Chief, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters and a brother; Julia Grogan-Howard, Alice Grogan-McKie and Michael Bernard Grogan. Mary Kathryn leaves to cherish her passing; her beloved daughter, DeShana Grogan (Alando), her firstborn granddaughter, SunDarri Grogan, her beloved grandchildren: Jordan, LaMauri and Naomi, and other foster grandchildren; and her bonus granddaughter, Ashleigh Hunter; her youngest sister, Brenda Grogan; a Brother-in-Law, Walter Howard; precious nephew and nieces, Terrell Howard, Shedrena and Shelanda Grogan, and Erica (Greg) Turner; her Christian family here at Cathedral, a host of relatives, colleagues and friends just too numerous to name.
