Mary Lee “Candy Girl” Addison-Baker was born on September 21, 1953, in Schlater (Leflore County), Mississippi, to the union of W.C. Addison and Mariah McMullen. She was the second of two children.
Her parents moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1958. She attended Cleveland Public Schools. She met and married Clarence “Boomer” Baker.
Mary Lee was known in the neighborhood as “Candy Girl.” She loved dancing, music, cooking, working in her garden, and sitting on the front porch.
Mary Lee went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after an extended illness on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the home of her grandson, DeAndre Stinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. and Mariah Addison, and a brother, Walter Lee Addison.
Mary Lee leaves to cherish her memory: five children: a daughter, Tamara Addison; four sons, Curtis Addison, Ronald (“Paris”) Addison, Michael Connor, and Christopher (“Donnita”) Addison; twelve grandchildren: Nekedra (“Jermaine”) Jackson, DeAndre (“Songhai”), Tyteona, Essence, Ayanna, Destiny, Rhoneisha, Ronald Jr., Chase, Praise, Domani, and Cayden; and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Katherine Addison-Evans of South Euclid, Ohio; two brothers, Willie Lee Addison of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jimmie Lee Addison of Chicago, Illinois; three stepbrothers, Wade Holloway of Kentucky, Joseph Holloway, and George Holloway; two stepsisters, Barbara Sobers and Cheryl Holloway, all of Cleveland, Ohio; two aunts, Corine Shelley and Betty (Larry) Ganaway; two uncles, Chester McMullen Jr. and Donell (Sylvia) McMullen, all of Marion, Indiana; an uncle, M.J. (“Sonny”) McMullen of Schlater, Mississippi; an aunt, Beatrice McMullen of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, Tonya Bates of South Euclid, Ohio, and Avant Bimbo of Cleveland, Ohio; two special grand-nephews, Jaden Bates of Mayfield Village, Ohio, and Jordan Bates of Cincinnati, Ohio; a special cousin, Elmira Brown (98) of Cleveland, Ohio; an extended family, the Cargile family; and a host of relatives and friends.
