Mary Reva Walker (née King), age 88, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Beachwood, Ohio, with her youngest son, Andre Walker, by her side.
Mary Reva, affectionately known as “Peaches”, was born on September 5, 1937 in Anawalt, West Virginia. She was born to Ollie Reva Trent and Nicodemus King, and was the youngest of two sisters (Armelia Pannell and Jerline Moore) and one brother (Nicodemus King Jr.). Mary Reva was blessed to have in addition to her parents’ the influence of many loved ones during her formative years, such as her Grandma Dehart, Aunt Jane and Uncle Sam. She attended Elkhorn High School in McDowell County and enjoyed the learning environment very much due to the influence of her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Mervin who were educators. She was adored by her teachers and especially by many of her male peers.
Involvement in school activities was also very important to her. She participated in drama and her most memorable performance was in the Easter play when she played The Virgin Mary. In the 8th grade Mary Reva won the Miss Northfork title and represented the basketball team during the tournament. While in her high school years she played the clarinet in the band and was voted homecoming queen in her Jr. year of high school.
Mary Reva formed many friendships in her youth that she cherished, she had particularly fond memories of her relationships with Pearl Martin and Charlene Stewart since age 4 and Jesse Mae Spencer since seventh grade. They would entertain themselves with dolls, playing cards, and beautify themselves by making sure their fingernails were always freshly manicured. She developed an exceptional work ethic and a sense of style in fashion and interior home decorating very early in life.
While in grade school she met Eugene “Cookie” Walker through her sister Armelia. Later in high school Mary Reva was reacquainted with Cookie and began to date him in his senior year of high school. He was actually in the same class as her brother Nick. One of her fondest memories during their dating years was his “infamous smile” which always gave the impression that “Butta won’t melt in his mouth” as she’d say. Mary Reva would reminisce about the fact that he never wanted her feet to get wet or soiled during inclement weather, so Cookie always carried Mary Reva. You could say he literally swept her off her feet!
Mary Reva was united in marriage March 13, 1955 to Eugene Walker, her high school sweetheart. From this union, three loving sons were born. Mary Reva’s first and most special child, Michael Anthony, was born April 4th 1956. She considered Michael to be the best thing to ever happen in her life. Caring for him during his forty-four years taught her how to love and care for people, unconditionally. Her second son Terance “Tony” Antoine was born March 22nd 1958. Tony’s love and devotion to his mother did not go unnoticed, especially in assisting her with the care of his brother Michael. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1962, where her third son, Andre, was born on March 10, 1963. She would affectionately refer to Andre as “her baby” when introducing him to everyone she met. Andre remained close to his mother throughout their lives, and through her love, she taught him how to love—fully, selflessly, and unconditionally.
Mary Reva thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, loving and caring for them with all her heart and soul. She always worked fervently at keeping her home immaculate and stunningly decorated. Her goal was to love and care for her family and anyone else who stepped inside her home. She would always make anyone who came to her home feel comfortable, especially during the holidays when you were sure to get some of the most delicious home cooking. Everyone was welcomed!
In addition to her career in her home, Mary Reva also helped to support her family by working at General Electric at Nela Park from 1969 to 1985. She helped to nourish her own self spiritually by finding a church home soon after retiring. Mary Reva has been a member of Morning Star Baptist Church since 1987. She served the Lord by utilizing her talents on the Altar Guild, making sure the House of the Lord was appropriately presentable. Her faith in the Lord steadfast and true.
Mary Reva carried herself with elegance and class. She had a love for style – especially shoes and purses, truly a beautiful lady. She was devoted to her family, helping care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Nicole Walker, LaToya Walker-Brantley, Amber Walker, Kyra Walker, and only grandson Sean Walker. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Emani, MJ, Tru, Jackson, Kingston, Kyrie, Kendrick, Nico and Kino.
Mary Reva had a cheerful and loving spirit, a gift for making friends wherever she went. To be her friend was to be family, as she embraced those around her with genuine love, warmth, and belonging.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends—all of whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return. She will be deeply loved and profoundly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her love and legacy will live on in all those she touched, whether friend or family, forever held in the hearts of those who were blessed to be loved by her.
