Mattie Samuels, 97, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 1, 2018. She was born in Edison, GA, where she received her education. Mattie Samuels, 97, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 1, 2018.
She was born in Edison, GA, where she received her education. Mattie later moved to Akron and lived here for over 70 years.
Mattie was married to James Samuels for several years. She worked at Ohio Department of Mental Health, retiring with 22 years of service on December 31, 1988.
Mattie joined New Hope Baptist Church where she served as President of the Mother Ministry. Her favorite hobbies were fishing and playing bingo.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Thomas Harrison; father Fred Thomas; husband, James Samuels, and step-grandson, James McGray III.
Mattie leaves to cherish her loving memories, daughter, Barbara Jackson McCray; grandson, Kevin Jackson; sister, Maxine Brown Edison, GA; brother John Clifford Harrison, Atlanta, GA; godchildren, LaMonica, Gerald, Madison Davis; Pastor Nelson, Sister Nelson and family; best friend Bessie Robinson, surrogate godchildren, Billy Stone, Greg Brown, Vicky Stone and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
