Maurice Cook was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Russell Sr. and Emma Cook on October 29, 1968. He was the youngest of nine children born to this union.
Maurice attended The Cleveland Public School System, where he met a lot of friends along the way. At a young age Maurice accepted Christ and was a member of Aspinwall Church of Christ. He worked many years doing drywall and plastering. He then named himself the “Sandman”. That opened the door for many more names including Moe Jolly, Frenchie Pierre, Bike Man, Jamaican Buton, Booty and Blood to name a few, but he would answer to them all.
Maurice loved his music, you could often catch Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love” on repeat, but he loved nothing more than being in the company of his family.
Maurice was a joy to know, and if you knew him you loved him. If you called on Moe, his favorite response was I’ll be there in 3.5 seconds. Moe’s charismatic personality and ability to make anyone laugh through the hardest of times will be remembered more than ever.
Maurice passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022, at home.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents Russell Cook Sr. and Emma Cook; brother Myron Cook Sr.; two sisters Stella Freeman and Marian Cook. He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter Charnese Sudberry; two grandchildren Khari Sudberry and Caleb Alexander; three sisters Ethal Cook, Antionette (Kenny) Williams, Idella (Clifford) Coster; two brothers Russell Cook Jr. and Eddie Cook; special friend Cassandra Brooks and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
