Maurice V. Goin Sr., known to many as “Tony,” was born on December 3, 1952 to the late Charles and Sally Jean Goin, (nee Gilmore) in Cleveland, OH. He passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 73. Maurice was a lifelong resident of the city he loved and proudly called home.
First and foremost, Maurice was a man of faith. His Christian journey began early in life, and in 1986 he was baptized at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was an original member. In later years, he continued his spiritual walk as a devoted member of New Community Bible Fellowship, where his faith remained central to his life. Maurice’s relationship with God guided how he lived, loved, worked, and served others.
Maurice grew up the oldest of five brothers, who shared a lifelong bond: Charles Goin Jr., Richard Goin(deceased), Garry Goin (Anna), and Michael Goin (Vanessa). He was blessed to have several cousins who grew up like his siblings, Huey Haynes Jr. (Pamela), and Barbara Murphy (Alex) along with nieces, nephews, sister in laws, and a host of extended family and friends. Family was always at the center of his life, those early relationships shaped his character, resilience, and love for others.
Maurice was a member of the 1971 graduating class of Glenville High School.
Maurice attended Ohio State University, where he was a member of the ROTC. He later transferred and received his degree from American University in Washington, D.C. Maurice proudly served his country as an Air Force veteran, demonstrating the same dedication, discipline, and integrity he carried throughout his life. These accomplishments reflected his commitment to education, personal growth, and excellence.
Professionally, Maurice worked as an IT professional in the medical industry, where he applied his skills with diligence and integrity. He was a hardworking and dependable provider who took great pride in caring for his family.
Maurice was fun-loving, caring, and full of personality. Known for his sense of humor and his gift for storytelling, he had a unique ability to turn everyday moments into cherished memories. He loved sharing life lessons, laughter, and stories that connected people across generations.
Family brought Maurice his greatest joy. Whether attending his children’s sporting events, encouraging (and sometimes insisting) they play the piano, watching a good movie together, or worshiping at church, he treasured every moment spent with loved ones. These moments reflected the depth of his love and the values he instilled in his family.
Maurice joined Joyce Graves in a loving union in September 1988. (She often called him, “Fred”, confusing some church members. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Goin; his children, Monique Graves-Banks (Katrina), Maurice Goin Jr., (Caitlin) and Amber Goin, (Shane) his grandchildren, Elliott Covington, Leilani Goin, Kayden Belle, and Makai Goin; and his great-grandchild, Elle Covington. Those also left to cherish his memory his brothers, Charles, Garry, Michael, siblings Huey and Barbara. Sister-in-laws Carolyn Graves Jackson, (Charles, decease), Yvonne Graves, brother-in-law Ralph Graves (Donna) along with a host of extended relatives, church family, and friends who were blessed by his presence.
Maurice “Tony” Goin Sr. leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, humor, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the stories he told, the laughter he shared, and the values he passed on to generations who will continue to carry his memory forward.
