Melaney Selyre Colvin, 40, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away recently. She was born on November 3, 1985, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Miranda G. Hannah and the late Dermetrius Compton Sr.
Melaney was the oldest child of both parents. She was preceded in death by her father, Dermetrius Compton Sr., who passed away a year ago.
Melaney attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated with honors from John Marshall High School. She later attended Bowling Green University.
Melaney held various career interests in her youth while raising her children. Most recently, she worked for the United States Post Office, where she began as a clerk and worked her way up to supervisor, ultimately achieving the position of manager.
Melaney was known for her strong sense of humor and quick wit. She had a loving, outspoken, and headstrong personality. Her hobbies included playing spades and the lottery—where she was often a winner. Her most precious ability was her God-given gift of sight. Melaney’s most cherished role was that of a mother. After having four sons, she felt truly blessed by the arrival of her baby girl, Ava.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lynell Colvin; her five children: Ramon, Raymond, Raymere, Wes, and Ava; her stepchildren; and two grandchildren. She also leaves behind her mother, Miranda G. Hannah; a host of brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly; a daughter-in-law, Aaliyah; and a host of extended family and friends.
Melaney was a loving wife, mother, older sister, daughter, niece, cousin, and friend. She will be loved and deeply missed by many. Though putting her body to rest is difficult, her loved ones find peace knowing she is with family in heaven.
