Melvin Jackson was born on November 18, 1998 in Painesville, OH to Shameka Jackson and George Mincey Jr. At the age of 5, Melvin’s loving stepfather, Lamar Jenkins, came into his life. Melvin was christened as a baby at St. Mark RZUA Church in Norfolk, VA. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Oakwood Village, OH. Melvin started his school journey at Harvest Preparatory School in Columbus, OH and continued his education at John Dewey Elementary School in Warrensville Heights, OH. He graduated from Solon High School in 2017. During his time at John Dewey Elementary and Solon High School he formed friendships and a brotherhood with teammates that will last a lifetime. At the age of 6, Melvin began his lifelong love of playing football for the George Monroe All Stars lead by Coach Bullock. He then went on to play high school varsity football and run track. Melvin loved his job at Swagelok where he worked for the last 2 years. He was beloved by coworkers and supervisors. Melvin had a spirited and very outgoing personality. He always brought a smile to anyone’s face that he encountered. He had a caring heart and always made sure his loved ones were taken care of no matter the circumstances.
Melvin passed on December 30, 2021. He is survived by his mother, Shameka Jackson and his father, George Mincey Jr., stepfather, Lamar Jenkins; grandparents, George Mincey Sr. and Cynthia Diane Mincey; sisters, Shamara Jackson, Alena Jenkins, Malia Jenkins, and stepsister Leona Webster; aunts, Pamela White (Sylvester) and Yolanda Jacoway; uncles, Shawn Mincey (Tanika) and Kevin Holloway; cousins, Jasmine Jacoway, Maurice Salmon (Corinne), Manesha Salmon, Taylor Mincey, and Juanita Mincey; godmother, Marcela Alonso. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members, friends, and teammates who loved him dearly. He was preceded by death by his grandparents, Eugene Jackson, and Lena Jackson; great grandparents, George W. Mincey and Ruth Mincey, Juanita Thomas, and Benjamin Thomas; and cousin, LaKeita Williams-Sagoes.
In the words of Melvin, “Tomorrow will be a brighter day, we just gotta make it thru the night”.

Melvin was such a fun loving cousin. Although he was younger than me I enjoyed being around him when he came to Ga. My last memory of Melvin was in May 2019 at one of my nieces graduation. After the graduation we all went bowling and we all had a great time with everyone. Melvin and I was rolling balls for everyone while everyone was putting on their shoes leaving to go home. Melvin and I was taking everybody else’s turn bowling and just laugh and having so much fun together. My son Jordan said Melvin was constantly texting him to check on him since he started college last year in August. I am truly going to miss seeing him with the Mincey family gatherings. My heart was saddened with this news but I know that God don’t make any mistakes and that Melvin is resting in his arms. To my cousin George and to Shameka we are here for you all. It’s going to take time to heal but just know that God has you both wrapped in his arms and he will help you both get through this. Rest well Melvin! We love you and we will miss you dearly!!

Or sneak my phone of my desk for a selfy photo shoot, I would find once I was home, lol! I can not think of one day he didn’t wear a smile, or make me laugh.
