On September 3, 2020, Melvin Lee Finney surrendered his earthly body to be one with God. He arrived on October 5, 1954, to the late C.B and Rosa Lee Finney both deceased here in Akron, Ohio. He was a graduate of Central High class of 1973, and upon completion, he joined the United States Army in June of 1976 and he completed his service and received an honorable discharge on January 15, 1985. Because he was always a lover of cars, trucks, traveling, and women he became and was certified as an over the road driver. He drove for several years as a Greyhound bus driver. After that, he decided he enjoyed transporting materials and freight and not people. He drove trucks for several different companies over the years and resided in Rochester, New York, and Columbus, Georgia and he also enjoyed making trips to Mobile and Yellow Bluff, Alabama. Melvin had traveled all 50 states over the course of the last 45 years of his life.
Before his passing, he was employed at A. Duie, Pyle Inc. He was a faithful member of the American Legion Post # 0272, where he enjoyed stopping in and sharing stories of his over the road adventures. He would travel and bring back his close friends’ hog head cheese and moonshine on his returns home. He was always a joy to be around. He loved to entertain and was an avid cook. You were always welcome at his home.
He was preceded in death by his father CB Finney; mother, Rosa Lee Finney; and brother Cleophus Finney.
Melvin leaves to mourn his passing daughter, Katora Latia Finney (Christopher Raines) of Talbotton, Georgia; sisters, Mary, Shirley, and Pamela Finney of Akron, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends, Beatle, Ronnie, and Charles Small, Jr. and a host of family and friends.
