Michael W. Blaney was born in Medina, Ohio to the late Bernard Eugene Blaney and Beatrice Joyce Carter-Blaney. Michael later moved to Cleveland, with his parents, as a young child.
Michael attended Longwood Elementary School, Charles Elliot Junior High School, and John F. Kennedy High School. Michael later attended Central State University for one year.
He met his wonderful wife at the Warrensville Road Community Baptist Church, where they both served as youth counselors for the Christian Teen and Youth Fellowship Ministry. On August 23, 2008, they were united in holy matrimony.
For many years, Michael worked as a machine operator until his retirement in 2025.
Michael accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized on October 1, 1995, at the Patten Memorial Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended the St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served as the leader for the Men’s Ministry and sang in the Men’s choir.
In 2004, he joined the Warrensville Road Community Baptist Church and was active in the Youth Ministry, Youth Sunday School as a teacher and the Men’s Fellowship. He most recently joined an online Men’s bible study group call “The Huddle.”
Loving the sport of football, Michael played for John F. Kennedy High School, and he played football for one year at Central State University on a football scholarship He also enjoyed basketball and played on travel teams in the city of Cleveland. He coached and officiated a Christian church league for youth and was an active member at the Onyx fitness facility and enjoyed his weekly workouts.
One thing to remember about Michael is that he loved serving people through random acts of kindness. He valued family time, whether it was cooking, watching sports, going to the movies, a Saturday car ride, dinner at a restaurant or a quick weekend getaway. He chose to spend time with his wife and his mother-in-love.
Additionally, he enjoyed connecting with other Christian men and singing. He was witty, with a great sense of humor, and a deep thinker.
He loved his relationship with Jesus Christ and relished his time to study the bible, the scriptures, praying and sharing his faith.
He loved his wife Carla, whom he nicknamed Pumpkin and he in turn, was also nicknamed Pumpkin by Carla. Every night before falling asleep, there was a goodnight kiss and he would say to her “goodnight, Pumpkin, I love you and goodnight, Jesus, I love you.” Carla would then respond by saying to Michael “goodnight, Pumpkin, I love you and goodnight, Jesus, I love you too.”
Michael departed this life on Monday, March 9, 2026. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Carla L. Blaney, brother Brian Blaney, sister Michelle Moore, his nephew, Van Moore II (Cassidy Sanchez-Moore), great nephews Aiden and Saint, great niece, Mila, his mother-in-love Carolyn Smith (Clifton-deceased), brother-in-law Curtis Smith (Anita), and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
