Michael Edward Davis, an Army veteran, loving father, devoted brother, cherished grandfather, loving uncle and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully on July 01, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on November 18, 1950, in Harlan County (Lynch) Kentucky to Thornton Brown Davis, (dec.)) & Mamie Lee Davis, (dec.)) Michael dedicated his life to serving his country and his family with unparalleled honor and commitment.
After Michael graduated from Lynch High School in 1969, he was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 21, where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his exemplary leadership skills and unwavering dedication. He served in Germany and earned the National Defense Service Medal. Michael’s bravery and resilience were a testament to his character, inspiring all who knew him.
Beyond the military, Michael was a pillar of strength and love for his family. Although he never married, Michael did have a son, Michael Dion Wimberly, whom he was instrumental in instilling in him the values of integrity, hard work, and compassion. Michael was a doting grandfather to his granddaughter, Taylor Macayle Wimberly, who adored his stories, wisdom, life lessons and the twinkle in his eye.
Michael’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was the heart and soul, always putting the needs of his loved ones above his own. His devotion to his family knew no bounds.
As a brother, uncle & cousin, Michael was a source of unwavering support and camaraderie, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a hearty laugh. His friendships were marked by loyalty and genuine care, making him a beloved figure in everyone who knew him. Michael’s generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, as he actively helped anyone in need, continually striving to make a positive impact.
Michael discovered his passion for golf and spent countless hours on local courses. This early love affair with the sport blossomed into a lifelong dedication. Over the years, he became a well-respected, (and in his own words, ‘feared’) figure in the local golfing community, often sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow golfers. Michael’s weekends were often spent on the greens, where he found not only joy and relaxation but also camaraderie and lifelong friendships.
Michael Edward Davis’ legacy is one of courage, love, and dedication. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. He is survived by his Son Michael (Simone) Wimberly, granddaughter Taylor Wimberly, sisters; Arlisa Davis, Arnita (Richard) Brown, Norma (James, (dec.)) Curtis, Patricia (Daniel) Liggins, Vyredia (Bobby) Williams and Wanda Davis; Brother; Kenneth (Juanita) Davis and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael is preceded in death by his sister Verla (David, (dec.)) Singleton and his brothers, Thornton, (Jacqueline, (dec.)) Davis & Marcus (Diana) Davis.
