Michael Jerome Raines Sr. was born on July 24, 1955 at North Side Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. He was born to the late Anna Louise Simmons and Lawrence Raines.
Michael attended East High School in Youngstown, graduating in 1974. During high school, Michael met and married Tina Fletcher. From this union, two children were born.
Following high school, Michael quickly entered the workforce where he found employment with LTV Steel in Campbell, Ohio until their closing. He decided to move to Akron, OH in 1994 and with prior knowledge of cars, he secured employment at Ganley Toyota for several years. It seems as though his heart always belonged to steel, leaving Ganley Toyota for Burger Structural Steel where he remained until the plant closed. It was then he discovered Union Metal and rose through the ranks to become the foreman of the plant. After a closing of yet another plant in 2018, Michael decided it was a great time to retire.
Later after moving to Akron, Michael met Annie White and after some time the two wed on August 24, 2002 and remained together until the time of his passing. Michael was a great husband, father, step-father and grandfather. His presence will truly be missed by all that love him.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting Hot Wheels and watching his favorite shows (anything that had to do with cars). He will always be remembered by his tenacity and honesty. Above all, he will never be forgotten.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Raines; father, Lawrence Raines Sr. and brother, Lawrence “Larry” Raines Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Annie Raines; siblings, Phyllis Simmons, Natalie (Tommy) Evans, Anna Raines and Gregory (Rhonda) Raines; children, Michael Raines Jr. and Rachel Raines; step-children, Latasha (James) Maull, Karlos (Samaria) Irvine, Quindel (Sparkle) White and Sha’Ritta Mobley-White; 17 grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
