Michael Phillip Parish was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 28, 1956. He is the son of Alford L. Parish, Sr. and the late Catherine Parish. Michael peacefully passed away at his home in Bedford Heights, Ohio, on December 1, 2025, at the age of 68.
Michael grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where he had an active childhood, full of energy, showcasing many talents, and always taking part in community events. As a young athlete, he was a proud member of the B-Buzz Baseball League, helping his team capture the 1970 championship title, a memory he cherished. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1975, where he was involved in numerous activities and proudly played trumpet in the school’s renowned “Million Dollar Marching Band,” a role that highlighted his musical talent and school spirit.
Michael served honorably in the United States Air Force, demonstrating dedication, discipline, and pride in serving his country. After his military service, he proudly joined the Cleveland Fire Department as a firefighter & EMT on January 26, 1981. For over two decades, he protected his community with courage and integrity. Michael was also a proud member of the Cleveland Chapter of the Vanguards along with the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters (IABPFF), reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and fellowship. After retiring from the fire department, he pursued several business ventures that reflected his diverse interests and entrepreneurial spirit.
Michael was married to the late Linda Parish for 25 years. Together, they raised their three children: Kiana, Adrian and Kelly.
Michael enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, bowling in leagues with friends, FaceTiming his grandchildren who knew him as “Paw-Paw”, supporting community campaigns and causes, and mentoring neighborhood kids by coaching sports, particularly softball and baseball. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Mike” to many, he touched countless lives through his guidance, support, and friendship. Known for his strong mind and independent spirit, he lived life on his own terms, full of determination, humor, and heart.
Michael is survived by his father Alford Sr., his children, Kiana, Adrian (Shanon), and Kelly (Jason); his brother, Alford Jr. (Poppie); his grandchildren, Kiairah (Jordan), Marquise, Kaylin, and Anya; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and other relatives who loved him dearly.
Michael will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his dedication to service, his devotion to family, his mentorship, and the lasting legacy he leaves in the hearts of all who knew him.
