Mildred Bryant, also known affectionately to her friends and family in Harrodsburg, Kentucky as “Pete” or “Ben” was born to Mary Ellen Pope and through her marriage to O’Bannon Taylor, raised and nurtured Mildred along with older brother William and younger brother Dudley. She attended Harrodsburg schools until her 12th grade year.
Mildred married Roscoe Brown and together they raised her son William O VanDyke. Mildred work for Clarkins in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio as a clerk, mainly specializing in domestics, until the closing of the company. She started a new career as a home health care aid. She loved working with the elderly and providing them care.
Mildred met Charles H. Collie, Sr. and they had two children together, Charles H. Collie, Jr. and Virginia Yvette Brown.
Mildred met the love of her life, Mr. Elijah Bryant, her high school sweetheart and they were blessed to raise several adopted children, along with his stepchildren during their many years of marriage. She was affectionately known as “Mama”, “Granny”, “Auntie” and “Gorgeous” by everyone who knew and loved her.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church and the Dorcas Circle. Although relocating to Columbus, she remained a faithful member of the church. Mildred enjoyed shopping, working on her puzzles, watching a supporting CAVS, and talking on the phone. She was dedicated to her family and loved everyone.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Elijah Bryant; parents, Mary Ellen and O’Bannon (Van); brothers, William and Dudley; stepson, Stephen Bryant; foster son, Jeffrey Clemens; best friends, Bernice Lou Harris and Donna Eaves Pettaway.
Mildred a part of his life on November 17, 2021, and leaves to forever cherish her memory, sons, William (Cheryl) VanDyke, of Green, OH, Charles H. Collie, Jr. of Akron, OH, Virginia Yvette Brown a Pataskala, OH; foster sons, TV (Sonya) of Mansfield, TX, Hakim (Christa) of Akron OH; daughter LaVerne (Johnny) of Akron OH, and Connie (Saleen) of Akron OH; step daughters, Charlotte (Andy) Harris of Harrodsburg, KY, Phyllis (David) Yates of Harrodsburg KY; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
