Milton Shields was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Sam and Bessie Miller Shields, on February 9, 1933. Milton was the third of three children and was very close to his siblings.
Milton attended school in Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated from John Hay High School. Soon after he married his high school sweetheart Margaret Shields, and to this union five daughters and two sons were born: Deborah, Vanessa, Milton Jr., Pamela, Denise, Michael, and Margaret (Sandra). Milton also dedicated his life to Christ, believing devoutly in God.
At an early age, Milton began his career in the military, serving in the United States Army for many years where he fought in the Korean War. For 10 years of his life, he worked for Republic Steele and was also truck driver. Milton dedicated many hours of his life to serving his community and volunteering. He was known for his hospitality and was a gifted artist who loved drawing faces and people. He was called by his family “Two Daddy”.
Milton was a beautiful, lively, and charismatic man who embraced everyone who came into his presence. Some would say he was the life of the party, doing the peg leg dance and saying, “Watch out there now!”
Milton was well known for his exquisite wardrobe, matching hats and shoes. He loved singing the blues and James Brown songs. His favorite colors were dark colors. At the end of the day, whether you were a family member, friend or neighbor, you would leave his home with memories that would last a lifetime.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Bessie Miller Shields, brother Karl Shields, wife Margaret Irene Shields, and children Deborah Sims and Milton Shields Jr.
Milton leaves to cherish his memory his sister Ophelia Shields Parker Barbee; children Vanessa Shaw, Pamela Shields, Denise Shields Kelly & husband Willie Kelly, Michael Shields & wife Barbara Shields, Margaret (Sandra) Shields; nieces and nephews Harry Parker, Jacqueline & husband Nathaniel Austin, Frank Parker Jr., Shirley Parker, Helen Parker, Denise Flowers; a host of grandchildren (20), great grandchildren (45), great great grandchildren (8), in laws, cousins, and friends.
