Minnie Lee Thomas Weaver was born in Ft. Lauderdale Florida on April 30, 1924, to the late Flossie Sweet Thomas and Bennie Slater Thomas. Minnie attended the Old Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale and graduated from what-was-then West High School in Akron, Ohio. She was a lifelong and active member of Wesley Temple until she moved to the Washington DC area in 2012 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Education was always important to her. She became an LPN and in her 40’s she earned an AA degree in Inhalation Therapy. In her 60’s she entered Akron U. and earned a BA degree, with honors, in Child Life Studies. She used all those skills working with preemies at Children’s Hospital for over 30 years. Minnie Lee migrated to Akron from Ft. Lauderdale, FL when she was just a teenager and married her childhood sweetheart, Booker T. Weaver Sr. in 1944. She was an active member of The Wesley Temple Church Club and The Adella Homes Social Club in East Akron. After retirement, she traveled to many interesting and exotic places around the world with old friends from the church and social clubs. She also took several trips a year to Las Vegas with those same friends and loved to play Bingo and sew. She was always willing to do for others and always willing to help anyone in need. She informally ‘adopted’ many of our friends as we were growing up and represented everybody’s mother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded by her parents, Bennie Slater Thomas Sr. and Flossie Sweet Thomas; beloved husband, Booker T. Weaver Sr; daughter, Deborah Lynn Williams; siblings, Ruth Thomas, Hermina (Mikki) Threatt, and Bennie Slater Thomas Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Winifred Weaver; sons Booker T. Weaver Jr., and Antony Charles Weaver, all of Washington, DC. She was the proud grandmother of Brian Williams (Isha), Ecuador, South America, Naketa Williams Jones, (Joey), Detroit Michigan, Cheryl Weaver, Washington, DC., Alisha Weaver Fisher (Damon), Atlanta Georgia, Ian Weaver, Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jared Weaver, Washington, DC. Mila Przybylska-Weaver, Washington, DC., Tinisha Shelton, Dayton Ohio; and 9 great-grandchildren; niece, Michelle Threatt Littlejohn (Kenneth); nephew, William (Billy) Threatt Jr, (Jamie), as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.
