Mollie L. Goodman, affectionately known as “Mother Goodman,” was born September 17, 1923, in Dayton, Alabama to Richard and Queenie Walls. She passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022, at the age of 98.
Mollie was a beautiful woman, she married Dr. George W. Goodman in 1946 in Akron, Ohio. She stood faithfully by his side as he pastored Peoples Baptist Church (city). They remained married for 58 years until his passing. She was an independent, strong woman who lived on her own after her husband’s passing. She trusted God to keep her.
Mother Goodman and her beloved husband loved to take vacations and Sunday drives with their family. She was a giver who loved her children and grandchildren. She supported her family spiritually, financially, and in any way she could. She will truly be missed.
Mollie was a great seamstress. She made her children’s clothes by hand, and she enjoyed needlepoint and embroidery. Her sweet potato pie and peach cobbler were known as some of the best in the city. She kept her yard immaculate and became a recipient of the City of Akron Beautification Award for her garden. She loved shopping. Having a style of her own, everything had to match. She was always sharp in her hats, jewelry, shoes, and clothes.
Mother Goodman was passionate about doing the work of the Lord and always spoke her mind about what she believed was right. She sang in the church choir, worked with the youth choir, and was the annual Mistress of Ceremony for Women’s Day. She also volunteered at Lane Elementary School as a crossing guard and worked with the school children in the community.
Mollie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George W. Goodman; sister, Chainey Walls; daughter, Belinda Connors; and niece, Mollie Louise “Gold” Walls.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Ronald (Veronica) Goodman; daughter, Georgette Prince; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She also leaves the Walls family, the Prince family, and her Nathan Street neighbors.
