Mr. Dallas C. Hunter Jr., 93, passed on to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, February 10, 2019, at Akron City Hospital. He was born July 2, 1925 to Dallas “DC” Hunter Sr. and Helen (Hines) Hunter in Akron, Ohio. He attended Robinson Elementary School and East High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army as a member of the 464th Aviation Squadron earning the rank of Corporal while experiencing heavy combat in the Pacific Islands. After his honorable discharge he secured employment at The Mayflower Hotel and subsequently, at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he retired after 37 years of service. In his early years of employment, he met and married the love of his life Leona (McDavid).
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cedric Hunter, sister Juanita Spencer and by his beloved wife of 56 years Leona. He is survived by children: Dallas III (Courtney), Cynthia, and Bruce, grandchildren: Tara Hunter, Jessica (Chris) Hinsvark, Kevin Hunter, Alex Andrew, and Courtney Jones, devoted “caretakers”adopted niece, Luvinda Prude, niece Khadijah Grant, adopted nephew Wallace Watson, loving nieces: Cheryl Singletary, Carla (Hunter), Camille (Hunter), cherished nephews:Cedric Hunter Jr., Avon McMillan, Lamont McMillan, and Gary Dix cousins: David (Beulah)McDay, life-long, special friends: Ernest and Lucille Calhoun, 4 great grandchildren, numerous great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
