Edward Johnson was born on November 22, 1935 in Gainesville, Alabama. His parents were the late James John and Susie Lee Harris Johnson. Ed was the fifth of twelve children. He departed this life suddenly on January 25, 2022. Growing up in a family of faith, Ed accepted Christ at an early age. He united with the First Baptist Church of Gainesville. Ed grew up in Gainesville and attended the local schools. He graduated from Sumter County Training School in 1954. Soon after, Edward moved to Detroit, Michigan and finally to Cleveland, Ohio. Once settling in Cleveland, he united with Mt. Gillion Baptist Church. He worshipped and remained a faithful member for over 50 years until his passing. Ed had a few employment starts before joining Harsax Management Company in 1964. He retired in 2007. Ed was always willing to share his knowledge. He enjoyed teachable moments in order that others could attempt basic home repairs. There are too many people to count that benefited from his carpentry skills and home improvement projects. He so loved his craft that in retirement he formed M&E Services LLC. Edward married Lizzie Ella Strode in 1958. She preceded him in death. They had three children Susan, Teryl, and Mylan. The family moved to Woodmere Village in 1976. He served as a volunteer fireman in his younger years and later served for more than 25 years on the planning and zoning committee. Ed had many interests. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending or watching various sporting events, and playing cards. His love of family allowed him to visit Alabama, California, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Washington DC, and Canada. His last trip was to Detroit, Michigan to visit with siblings. Ed was a man of patience and peace. He was slow to anger and always had an encouraging word or joke at the ready to make you smile and ease your mind. Ed was preceded in death by his sister Henrene and five brothers Samuel, Curtis, James, Johnie, Robert and son-in-law Sidney Rogers. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Susan Gale and Teryl Ann; his son Mylan Edward; the lights of his life grandchildren Shari Marie, Aaron Michael & Avery James; companion and prayer partner Elsie Mitchell; Four sisters Mrs. Grealdine Cobb of Detroit, MI, Mrs. Clarice Washington of Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Martha (Willie) Guy of Newnan, GA and Mrs. Donna Jean Brown of Ann Arbor, MI; One brother Mr. F.D. Roosevelt Johnson of Detroit, MI.; Sister-in-Laws Mrs. Louise Johnson of Cleveland, OH, Mrs. Frances Johnson of Modesto, CA, Mrs. Mona Johnson of Detroit, MI; Mrs. Margaret Kynard of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Rowena (Isaiah) Lee of Margaret, AL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
