Nelvin Charles Beard, aged 71 years old, lost his 17 ½ year battle with prostate cancer on July 24, 2024. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Chuckie was born on January 15, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio, where he spent his formative years. He went on to attend John Hay Senior High. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army; and he was stationed in Korea, where he earned his GED. After being honorably discharged, he attended West Side Institute of Technology and became a licensed 3rd Class Stationary Engineer. He began his engineering career at Republic Steel on August 16, 1977 and retired from the steel mill in January 2020. Throughout his career he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
But more than anything, Chuckie was a devoted father and Grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Sharing stories, playing games, and watching their favorite TV shows and sports. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. In this free time, Chuckie enjoyed listening to Motown music, grilling, traveling and eating; and was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He loved old movies and has an extensive collection. His cousin Karen nick-named him MGM. He was an active member of his community, volunteering for various causes and organizations.
Chuckie was preceded in death by his mother (Jean), father (Charles), grandmother (Jenni), aunts (Frances & Geraldine), and sister (Jeniece).
Chuckie is survived by his children: daughter Davera, and son Charles (CJ); his grandchildren: Christian, Toni, Kaylah; and his brother Bernard, his sister Karen; his nephews: Kenny, Antwon, Kai, Gregory, Brandon, Marlon, Marcel (deceased), and his niece, Martia; and many cousins. The Perry family held a special place in his heart. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
