O.C was born in Belzoni, Mississippi on June 5, 1923 to father Wesley Williams and mother Laura Williams. O.C was the youngest out of 10 siblings. Growing up O.C was given the nickname “Red” due to his red hair. O.C didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education, but he did finish up till the eighth grade. O.C spent much of his time with his siblings working as farmers on the plantation where they resided. At the age of 19 O.C was drafted into the United States Army to fight in the Korean War, which took place June 25th 1950-July 27th 1953. During the war O.C got to see many different parts of the world including: France, Korea, and many others. After completing his assignments, O.C earned three service medals: the UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. At the end of the war, O.C returned back home to Mississippi where he met the love of his life Nadine Spiller, whom he corresponded to during his entire time in the army. O.C and Nadine were inseparable due to O.C writing her many letters, which eventually led to O.C asking for her hand in marriage. Nadine and Oscar were married November 26, 1955 and had their first child O.C Jr “Buckey”. In 1956 the couple and their first born moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Oscar started to work as a laborer and truck driver for a company in Cleveland. Due to their great deal of faith, the family joined Williams Temple Church of God in Christ. Later, O.C and Nadine had five other children: Michael, Rose, Silverbell, Nancy, and Nichole “Peaches”. Due to O.C’s hard work and determination, he was able to start his own trucking business, which allowed him to become financially secure and to make his and Nadine’s dreams for their family come true by building his family their dream home in Hudson, Ohio in 1976. Their home included a big green yard for their children to play, a sun room for Nadine’s plants and enough room for their children to have their own rooms, which is what O.C and Nadine always wanted for their children. O.C was loyal, loving, hardworking, admirable, quiet, joyful, inspirational, easygoing, kind, and wise. Throughout O.C’s ninety years of life he was passionate about: hunting, fishing, fixing cars, helping others, westerns, baseball and most of all his family.
