Please Wear White To celebrate Pastor Marcus Journey into Heaven (Reception location will be announced at Celebration of Life)
Pastor Marcus Floyd Studmire, 58, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026. He was born on May 29, 1967, at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital—now known as MetroHealth—in Cleveland, Ohio, to Robert Lee Studmire and Cynthia Studmire.
Marcus grew up at 13320 Alvin Avenue in Garfield Heights, Ohio, where the roots of his character were firmly planted. He attended Cranwood Elementary School in Garfield Heights, later Charles W. Eliot Junior High School in Cleveland, and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1985, where he proudly wore jersey number 23 on the football field.
After high school, Marcus answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served honorably from 1985 to 1988 and was stationed aboard the USS Kaufman under Commander Dranchek. During his service he completed training in the Ship’s Self Defense Force and received an honorable discharge. His time in the Navy instilled discipline and strengthened his already deep sense of commitment and excellence.
Following his military service, Marcus pursued higher education with determination. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Tiffin University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Thermal Engineering from Cleveland State University. He also earned a School of Theology Degree from Mega Church, reflecting the deep faith that guided every aspect of his life. During his academic years, he was active in organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the National Technical Association (NTA), and Black in Government (BIG).
Marcus worked at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland for 32 years, beginning as a Mechanical Engineering Technician Journeyman and eventually becoming a full Aerospace Engineer. His work and dedication contributed meaningfully to the mission of the organization.
He also served as an Adjunct Professor at Tri-C, where he taught a mechanical engineering laboratory and shared his expertise within the Recording Arts program. Marcus believed education was transformative, and he poured knowledge and encouragement into every student who entered his classroom.
Music was another defining part of Marcus’s life. Growing up in a musical household—his mother a singer and his father part of a singing group—Marcus developed an extraordinary gift. He possessed the rare ability to hear music and immediately play it by ear. He became a gifted multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, piano, keyboard, and drums. He was also a certified Pro Tools engineer, songwriter, and producer who created full arrangements on his own.
Marcus was an early adopter of music production technology, working with programs like Cakewalk when it still ran on MS-DOS. His music blended influences from 1980s and 1990s R&B with contemporary Christian music. Inspired by guitar icons such as Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer, he created a sound that combined alternative textures, pop accessibility, and worship-centered songwriting.
His songwriting gained international recognition when he won a prestigious global Song of the Year competition for his song “Outpour,” which later appeared on his 2009 album Seasons. The word “Outpour” would later inspire the name of his church.
Marcus led a Life Group at Church on the North Coast called Song Writers of Faith, where people gathered to worship God through songwriting. Musicians and singers came together to create music, pray, encourage one another, and grow spiritually in a joyful and welcoming environment.
His faith journey was central to his life. He was ordained as a minister on July 9, 2000, by Pastor Lawrence W. Boone at Covenant Community Church, who also served as his spiritual father. Marcus faithfully served as a musician and minister, later becoming a pastor and praise and worship leader at Church on the North Coast, where he was a member for more than 16 years.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marcus launched Outpour Church (OPC) as an online ministry, creating a place where people could encounter God’s presence and grow in faith even while physically apart. The vision for the church was inspired by Acts 2:17: “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.” What began virtually later grew into a congregational community built on worship, faith, and service.
Outside of ministry and work, Marcus loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending quiet time in nature. These experiences brought him peace and were often shared with family and friends.
Marcus was a devoted husband and father. In 2021, he met his future covenant wife, Shareé, at Church on the North Coast. On their first courtship date he presented her with a single red rose and told her he believed she was his covenant wife. With the blessings of their parents and Mother Dupree of Lighthouse Fellowship Prayer Tower, they were married on July 9, 2024.
Marcus also cherished his three daughters—Brittany, Tyra, and Tosha. He loved them deeply, guiding and protecting them while teaching them to believe in themselves. Some of their most treasured memories were fishing trips together and family time in the kitchen cooking and sharing recipes.
Music was also something he shared with his daughters. Once a month, the four of them would lead praise and worship together at church—Brittany on bass, Tyra on electric guitar, Tosha on acoustic guitar, and all three singing. Marcus anchored the group on acoustic guitar, creating powerful moments of worship as a family.
Pastor Marcus Floyd Studmire was a man of extraordinary depth—a faithful pastor, beloved and devoted husband, caring father, loving son, supportive brother, Navy veteran, dedicated NASA engineer, professor, musician, songwriter, and author. He lived with unwavering faith, integrity, and a deep love for people.
He is survived by his beloved covenant wife, Shareé Studmire; his daughters, Brittany M. Studmire, Tyra P. Studmire, and Tosha Studmire; his father Robert L. Studmire and stepmother Maxine Studmire; his grandmother Fannie M. Bryant; his siblings Shamon Studmire, Brigette Wilson, Kimberly Studmire, Willainia C. Studmire, and Phillip C. Studmire; and a host of extended family and dear friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Studmire, and his brother, Adrian Wilson.
Pastor Marcus lived a life of faith, service, and love. The world will truly miss him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the music he created, and the faith he inspired in others.

Boy, I am very shocked and sad to see this. I met Marcus when I was recruiting Christian worship leaders who worked at NASA with me (part of bible study groups at work) to be featured at the coffee shop I organized at Elyria Foursquare Church. He was truly gifted and would pray for us after worship. Read his obituary and you will see that he was annointed. I was blessed to have that interaction with him. He is with our Father now. Singing with the angels. 🙏🌟

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." -John 14:1-3
