Patricia Ann Childrey passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and mentor. She was an independent woman who took care of her three children to the best of her ability. she loved dancing and was the life of the party. She enjoyed family gatherings and was a people person who would help anyone in need if she could.
Patricia was born to Johnnie and Hattie Childrey on March 19, 1948, in Muskegon, Michigan. She attended and graduated from Ravenna High School and furthered her education at Muskegon Community College and received an associate degree. After graduation, she pursued and obtained a Bachelor’s in Education at Western Michigan University.
Patricia’s family worshiped at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church of Muskegon Michigan, where she was baptized as a child until she moved to Kalamazoo Michigan.
Patricia worked at Muskegon Public Schools, Hackley Hospital, Muskegon Telephone Company and Kalamazoo Public Schools where she worked for twenty years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, arts & crafts, and music.
Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie C. Childrey, brother, Charles A Childrey; grandson, Patrick Willis Jones; aunt, Willie Mae Oliver and a host of other family members.
Her surviving immediate family members include her children, Monte J. Childrey, Olatutu Akinyelure and (Jared) Tiffany Hopkins; grandchildren, Candice N. Childrey, Samantha Kye, Dominiquekha Kye, Olashina Cummings, Sammy J. Kye, Tierra T. Armstead, and Jimmie J. Armstead; great-grand-children, Jalen Jordan, Bryson Jordan, Ziana Hughes, Adonis Hughes, Aviance Childrey, and Khi’rhee Childrey; mother, Hattie M. Baldwin Childrey; brothers, Joe (Bettie) N. Childrey and John (Elaine) C. Childrey; sisters, Bettie L. Thomas and Claudia R. Childrey and a host of other family members and friends.
