Paul Samuel Gantt Sr. was born in Clemson, South Carolina on June 5, 1932. He was the only beloved child of Julia and Lawrence.
Paul attended elementary school in Harlem, New York where he resided as a young boy. Eventually, he and his mother relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where he attended Griswold High School and went on to study business at Kent State University.
In 1949, he met Yvonne Moore, his neighbor, and they soon began dating. In 1952, Paul headed off to the United States Army, where he initially served in Japan. After serving his country in the Korean War he came home on leave and married, his sweetheart; Yvonne, who he lovingly referred to as ” Chicken”. From this union, three boys were born: Paul Jr, Kevin & Jonathan.
Paul was a hard-working man. At the beginning of his career, he worked as a timekeeper for Alcoa for 37 years. During his tenure at Alcoa, he also owned a delicatessen on 103rd and Miles for 5 years with a team of 7 associates. After he retired, he worked for Menorah Park, as a transporter for the seniors for almost a decade. Paul also drove for Meyer Senior Care for 5 years.
Paul was a true family man. A protector, provider and warrior, who would stop at nothing to take care of his family. During his leisure time, he enjoyed trips to the casino, fishing with friends and traveling. He was an absolute joy to be around & was loved and admired by many; his cool, calm demeanor made him easy to talk to about anything. He also shared the best stories and life lessons- he enjoyed talking about his experiences as a young boy, growing up during the Great Depression and how life was very different. Paul was full of wisdom!
He was a very active and able, senior. In 2022, he was diagnosed with cancer, but that never slowed him down. At 92 years young he could be found out in his yard, trimming hedges, cutting grass, heading down the road to the casino or enjoying a football game on a Sunday with family & friends.
On September 17th, 2024, Paul passed away. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne and sons, Kevin & Jonathan. Paul leaves to cherish his memories, his son Paul (Denise), Uncle Brian, Cousin Toni, grandsons: Kevin Jr., Michael & Pierre. Granddaughters: Stacey (Donny), Patrice (Britt) & Sherice. Great grandchildren: Jade, Ruby, Trinity, Sha’Miyah, Shamar, Shaun, Donny, Dillon, Eden, Britt Jr., Brayden, and a host of other family members and dear friends.
