Pearl Jean Hill was born in Saxton, Missouri, on May 7, 1941, to the late Jimmy and Annabell Carter. One of eight children, Pearl was the third oldest. She is reunited in heaven with her siblings Jimmie, George, and Laveria Carter, while her siblings Joe Carter (Shirley), Calvin Carter (Erma), Anna Marie Lawson (Eugene), and Marcenia Allen carry on her memory with love.
Pearl was united in matrimony to the late Donald Hill. She was the loving mother of four children: Donald Hill Jr., Kimberly Husain (Andre), Charletta Hill, and Sean Carter.
Pearl received her education at East High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in the medical field from Dyke College.
Lovingly known as Nanny, Pearl was a strong Christian woman with a heart of gold. Her home was a place of comfort, and she was someone people could turn to. She welcomed those in need, helped raise children, and supported others as they found their way. She offered a helping hand without judgment, touching countless lives and saving many along the way. Pearl never met a stranger.
Nanny moved to the beat of her own drum. Stylish, funny, and creative, Pearl had a personality that was entirely her own and a sense of fashion her family admired. She was a phlebotomist, a caterer, and a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, and she lovvveeeddd her fireworks!
Miss Pearl knew how to make life a good time. She loved her Marvin Gaye, her Anita Baker, and an opportunity to dance. Our dancing queen had humor and spirit that we will never forget. She taught us about life: how to work for what we wanted, share what we had, and still make time to enjoy ourselves. So many of us can quote Nanny. We each carry a story, an expression, or a lesson that will always belong to her.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved grandchildren: Brandon Stowers, Remy Levy, Devaugh Hill, Briana Smith, Andre Husain Jr., and Schawn Smith (Tori Smith). She will also be lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Nany, we give thanks for the love you gave to each and every one of us. We honor you for every door you opened, every person you welcomed, and kindness you shared. Your love has left a lasting mark on our lives, and we will carry it with us always.
