Peggy Marie Jones was born to the union of Catherine Smith and Easome Smith Sr. in Birmingham, Alabama on September 16, 1948. Her father moved the family to Cleveland, Ohio in the 1950’s.
Peggy graduated from Jane Addams Vocational High School in 1967. After high school she started working at Higbee’s downtown Cleveland. She was the elevator operator, in sales and stocked the merchandise. Later she was promoted to Bride Consultant.
She embarked on a new career path where she earned her Associate Degree in Social Services from Cuyahoga Community College. She worked at King Kennedy – Golden Age Center for Senior Adults. She organized social activities for the clients. She had an opportunity to become a supervisor for the state of Ohio at Broadview Developmental Center. In 2016, she retired from Southwest Developmental Disability Training Center in Cuyahoga County.
She attended Providence Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio for many years. She was baptized there and sang in the choir. She loved listening to the sermons of her pastor, Rev. Rodney Maiden. Peggy had a strong bond with all of her friends, church family and sisters in Christ. They consistently prayed with and for her. Her church family would review Sunday service, discuss bible verses and what it meant to them. She had long lasting relationships with her sisters in Christ for over 40 years! They attended luncheons, participated in gift exchanges, social gatherings, went on cruises and loved listening to music together.
Peggy was formerly married to Lenwood Jones, Jr. Of this union Deedra, Duane and Derrick Jones were born.
Peggy loved cooking and preparing meals for her family and friends. Her signature dish was Candied YAMS! Everyone loved them. She was delighted to cook them for all to enjoy. They were in high demand for all events. She received many orders for them. She really enjoyed having good old fashioned barbecues with her siblings and loved ones too.
Peggy had a “green thumb”. She loved to nurture plants and flowers. They were beautiful to her. She was creative too! She was a natural with planning, organizing and interior decorating. She used these skills personally and professionally when interacting with her family, friends and colleagues.
Peggy had much love and affection for her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending quality time with them for all occasions such as birthdays, graduations, new births and the holidays.
On September 24, 2024, Peggy transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord.
She leaves to mourn her children: Deedra, Derrick and Duane (preceded her in death); Step-children: Ann, Gabriella, Cynthia (deceased), Charles, James (deceased), Barry, Greg, Michael and Antonio; Grandchildren: Brandon, D’enaja, Derrius, Derrion, Dorrian, Janesha, and Jashawn; Great Grandchildren: Nyomi and Ace; Brothers & Sisters: Lamoyne, Easome Jr. (deceased), Robert Sr. (deceased), Edward (deceased), Carol (deceased), Arlecter (deceased) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
