Phillip J. Pleasant Jr. completed his assignment given by God at his home in Akron, Ohio on October 15, 2023 at the age of 86.  Phillip was born in Montgomery County, Alabama on April 24, 1937 to the late Mary and Phillip Pleasant.  He was the oldest of eleven children, six of which preceded him in death.

Phillip confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Montgomery County.  On September 25, 1954 at the age of 17 he joined the Navy where he served in the Reserves.  After returning to Montgomery, Phillip completed his high school education earning his degree in 1960.

Phillip moved to Akron, Ohio in September 1960 and resided here for the remainder of his life.  Phillip met Ann Purnell and they were married on April 22, 1961 and began the journey of building their family which included 3 children.

Phillip was very dedicated to his family and friends and was always there whenever anyone needed him.  He was a loving husband and father and a strong man of dedication, courage, and strength.  He Phillip worked for the YMCA, Brecksville VA Hospital.  He was hired by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in January 1966 from which he retired after 30 plus years of service.

made a point of always taking his family on vacation every year and showing them that no matter how busy your life becomes, it is important to get away and enjoy the time that God has given you.

Phillip has been reunited with his wife of 61 years Ann R. Pleasant.  He will also be hanging with his parents Mary Bracy Pleasant and Phillip Sr.; four siblings: Sally Robinson Britton, Christine Robinson, Willie Pleasant, and Earl Pleasant Sr.  He leaves to cherish his loving memories and lessons; daughters, Cassandra Jones (Raymond) of Detroit, MI and Denise (Douglas) Rookard of Columbus, OH; son Marcus Pleasant; sisters, Mary (M.E.) Gardner and Martha Gaston; brothers, Isaac Pleasant and Abraham (Sadie) Pleasant; sisters-in-law Maxine (Earl-dec) Pleasant all of Montgomery, AL and Janet Wilson of Mansfield, OH; 9 grandchildren DeJohn (Kari), Darrell, Deandrea, Chayla, Devon (Cesily), DJuan (Jenell), Bryien, Azariah and Philip; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
