Portia Renee Dixon, the second of four children of James A. Dixon and Beatrice Dixon, was born on October 6, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Portia accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethany Christian Church for many years. She was educated in the Cleveland Public School system and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1975.
After graduation, Portia went to work for the Water Department for the City of Cleveland and remained there until her retirement in 2007.
She was married to Myron Benson for 29 years until his death in 2017.
Portia was known for her wonderful sense of humor and love of making people laugh. Portia was intentional and dedicated to maintaining relationships, because everyone she spoke to knew a conversation with Portia was at minimum a two-hour conversation full of stories, laughs, memories, and advice.
She was truly devoted to her family and supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
She was the loving mother of Bertina Dixon and Dejuan Dixon, and stepmother to Antoinette Benson.
God called Portia home on Good Friday, April 8, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Benson; parents, James and Beatrice Dixon, all of Cleveland; sisters, Patsy Lay and Ponzella Johnson; and nephew, Jeffery Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Bertina, Dejuan, and Antoinette; grandchildren, Davon Dixon, Christina Dixon, and Darion Lemons, all of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, James A. Dixon Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She will truly be missed by all.
