Preston Lewis Jr. was born on December 27, 1932 to the union of Preston Lewis Sr. and Louise in Alabama. The family, thereafter, moved to Ohio. Upon turning 18, he began working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until he retired in 1979. He met and married Rose Marjorie Cobb in 1952 and from their union, they had six children.
Upon retiring from Goodyear in 1979, he worked various jobs including Dillard’s-Men’s Suits Department and the City of Akron.
He enjoyed joining his children in many sports, such as roller skating, basketball and softball. He also loved music, dancing, lifting weights and playing cards with his friends and family. Sunday dinners at the house with friends was a regular part of his life.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1957. He was a faithful servant until his death on September 6, 2020. He was a handsome, well-dressed man who enjoyed public speaking. He always had a good word to say to everyone he met and a funny joke. He could work a room with a smile and pleasantries. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, his son, Michael Weems of California and beloved daughter, Dorinda Ann Lewis. Also preceding him in death was his grandson, Robert Sams of Akron.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of 68 years; his daughters, Toni (Jerry) Clay of Arizona, Rose (Robert) Sams of Akron and Gretchen (Curtiss) Banks of Cleveland; his sons, Clark Lewis and Kevin Lewis of Akron; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and a worldwide Christian brotherhood.
