Quean A. Beck Reese went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2018.
Quean A. Beck Reese was born January 30, 1941, in Clarksdale, MS to Solomon and Clemette Beck. She moved to Akron with her family as a young girl attending East High School and later completing secretarial courses at Hammel-Actual College.
She worked for the City of Akron Health Department for 37 years, retiring in 2010. Her pride and joy were her children and three grandchildren. Quean, or Nana as she preferred to be called by her grandchildren, thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and often spent holidays with them in Atlanta. Her children were also her greatest investment and she prioritized their well-being and education and was especially proud of their academic and professional successes.
Quean was an avid gardener who enjoyed planting flowers around her home and on more than one occasion was awarded a Beautification Watch Award administered by Keep Akron Beautiful. She was an active and long-time member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served in Women’s Guild and was viewed as a Mother in the church.
Quean was preceded in death by her parents Solomon Beck and Clemette Anderson Beck and her brothers Johnnie Johnson, Saul Beck, and James Beck. She is survived by her son Le’Roy (Robin) Reese, her daughter Cheryl Reese, her grandchildren, Aman Folami Reese, Mariama and Nia Reese, her sisters, Annie Mae Mason, Arnater Yarborough, Lannie Foreman, her brother Sam (Geneva) Beck, special family friend ”son” Keith Grundy and many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
