Rachel Young was born on July 30, 1941 in Heidelberg, Mississippi, to Henry and Mary Eliza Lindsey. Rachel was one of ten children. Rachel Young was born on July 30, 1941 in Heidelberg, Mississippi, to Henry and Mary Eliza Lindsey. Rachel was one of ten children. She accepted Christ at a young age and attended Oak Bowery Methodist Church. She graduated from Southside High School in 1961 in Heidelberg, Mississippi.
Rachel moved to Cleveland, Ohio in the early sixties. She attended Everlasting Baptist Church where she married Edward Young in 1966. Her only child, Stephanie, was born from this union. Following this, Rachel graduated from the Erma Lee beauty school, where she was the valedictorian of the 1968 graduating class. Rachel obtained certifications in cosmetology school instruction at Mar-Pel’s Beauty Academy, certifications in food catering, she attended theology school and she also attended Cuyahoga Community College. Rachel opened her own beauty salon, Celebrity Fashions, and spent years in the beauty industry. Later in life, she was employed by and eventually, retired from United Airlines. In 2019, Rachel relocated to Dallas, Texas to be with her immediate family. She was a member of Harvest Missionary Baptist Church and New Community Church both in Cleveland, Ohio.
Rachel enjoyed cooking and catering events for family and friends. She also loved to take long walks. Rachel loved to fly to visit different cities around the United States. Some of her most enjoyable activities were singing gospel songs and dancing. Her three grandsons were her pride and joy. She spent many days spoiling her grandsons and having fun with them.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter Stephanie (Willard) Hart; and her three grandsons; Caleb Hart, Zachary Hart and Joshua Hart. Also, she leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters: Maggie Ulmer, Varibess Ulmer, Lula Emma Smith, Wayfola Lindsey and Margaret Lindsey. She was preceded in death by: her parents, brother Bob Lindsey, sister Johnnie Ulmer, sister Matilda Waters and sister Mary Waters. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends to remember her.
