Ramona “Mona” was born on December 13 195? in Detroit, Michigan. The actual year of her birth she took with her to her grave. Typical Mona. She was the second of five girls born to Mearl and Mary McWhorter. Early in her life, the family relocated to the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. Mona attended Cleveland Public Schools where she found life-long friends.
Anyone who knew Mona knew that she made friends wherever she went. She greeted everyone and was very good at remembering names. One of her favorite sayings was “It costs you nothing to speak”. Her favorite color is yellow and her favorite animal is the giraffe. She considered Atlanta Bear to be her “Grand-dog” and her “shadow”. Summertime proved to be her most loved season because no day was ever too hot for her. Mona had a big million-dollar smile, with a personality to match. Mona loved to travel to see relatives out of town and kept in touch with many of them. Mona absolutely loved music, and attending concerts was one of her favorite hobbies. Ask someone about her favorite music artists and her many nicknames. The woman was a feisty little lady who brought sunshine to all and loved to dance, always the life of the party. We all know that Mona had a big animated personality and she loved hugs. She brought joy to everyone around her. Mom studied the bible with Sister Dorothy, and acquired respect for Jehovah and his organization.
Mona worked at O’Grady’s dry cleaners for many years. We believe that she would still be there if she could. Prior to working with O’Grady, Mona worked for Bernie Shulmans for many years as well. Her most recent employers included Discount Drug Mart and Heinen’s Deli. Mona was blessed to retire a few years ago, however, she managed to keep a very active social life. Her favorite piece of advice is an admired quote taught by her father: “You take a chance on man, but put your trust in God”.
Mona leaves behind her loving husband Timothy Edgell, and children William, Alora, and Arnaz and her loving niece Tamika. Also her sisters, Sabrina, Jacqueline, Gwendolyn, and Renae. Her Grandchildren, Dejoir Dykes, William Pritchett, Shakara Pritchett, Shamyra Pritchett, Shannon Pritchett, Bre’Aunna McWhorter, Khalia McLemore, and Courtney. Five Great-grandchildren along with her best friends David, Mike, and Mr. Money. Mona will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Mona was loved by many and will be missed by all. In memory of Mona, let us all share a smile with one another.
