Rebecca Johnson was born on April 12, 1929 to the late Gus and Carrilla Tabb of Browns, Alabama. Rebecca came to Cleveland at a young age. Rebecca was married twice and from the unions she was blessed with 10 children.
Rebecca spent her life in servanthood always giving and sharing whatever God blessed her with rather big or small. Rebecca worked in customer service for many years. She was a waitress, performed housekeeping, and was a cook. She touched the hearts of many with a work ethic of excellency.
Rebecca loved spending time at garage sales and flee markets. The excitement of seeing what items were available and how many discounted sales she could find in a day, brought her joy and fulfillment. She also enjoyed making tea cakes, sweet potatoes pies and canning fruit jars.
Her two favorite things to do were gardening and cleaning, cleaning and MORE cleaning!!! She especially loved sweeping. The family inside statement was “you’re going to be in Heaven sweeping the golden road”. Rebecca always had gospel music playing throughout the day.
She loved the Amish country and cows which she had a great liking and obtained numerous collections. Mrs. Johnson’s life displayed courage, determination, commitment, and tenacity. She had an attitude that never gave up, in spite of trials and hardships she always pushed forward.
She fought in spirit trusting in God. She fought with heart not quitting. She fought in the natural meaning that no matter how hurt she might have been, Rebecca continued to preserve.
Rebecca had many sayings about faith in her God. Her two favorite sayings were “My Master has taken care of me all this time” and “My Master said I’m not going anywhere until He says so and He said not yet”. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23: “the Lord is my Shepherd”.
Rebecca fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished the race on April 2,2023. She was preceded in death by three children: Bradley Pettis, Wilma Jene Pettis and Brenda Pettis as well as all eight of her siblings.
Rebecca leaves to honor her memory Daughters Edwina (AL) Pettis, Malinda (Charles) Rivers, Beatrice Pettis, Lucille Johnson and Terri Johnson, two sons George Johnson, and Tony Johnson
a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memory.
