REV. HELEN TURNER THOMPSON departed this life on March 5, 2024. She was born January 7, 1931, to proud parents Sarah Turner and Richard Collins (both preceded her in death) in Cleveland, OH. Dean Sieck left a message on April 4, 2024:
I first met Helen in 1977, when I served as interim minister at Hough United Church of Christ. She was choir director there. Then later I suggested to her that Euclid Avenue Congregational Church needed a gospel choir and later still she became our director for so many years--and sort of the unofficial Gospel choir go-to person for the United Church of Christ in Ohio. I remember our choir singing with her at the Ohio Conference in Tiffin and in many other places, including several UCC churches throughout northeast Ohio. What a piano player she was!, always with that jazzy beat just under the gospel sound. And of course her son Mark was our Hammond B-3 player at EACC. A funny story we shared: She was at our table in the kitchen at our home on Rydalmount Road with me and my wife Judy when our new spooky cat jumped right over the table! She didn't miss a beat, just took notice, and we went right on with the meal. She was such a great lady! One of those you may not see often anymore, but you know the world is a lesser place for her absence. No one could play the piano like HTT! I will miss her.
Deacon Samuel D Craig Jr left a message on March 23, 2024:

Today, I pause to acknowledge the transition of Mother Helen Turner Thompson (1931-2024), a brilliant pianist, composer, gospel vocalist, choral director, contributing writer for “Black America Cleveland, Ohio,” author of her autobiography, donor to the Western Reserve Historical Society, and award-winning teaching-artist. This picture was taken at the 2021 Juneteenth celebration at WRHS. Needless to say, she will be missed. My condolences to her family, friends, students, and choir members. 🙏🏾❤️

To the family: May the Peace of God abide with each of you. HTT was my sister, friend, and prayer partner. I know she has already been appointed choir director in GOD’s Heavenly Choir.
Afi Scruggs left a message on March 22, 2024:
HTT was such a great musician, teacher, and mentor. I really appreciated the time she took with me and her willingness to share her knowledge. I know she's playing for all the heavenly choirs.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

A lovely woman of God blessed with a host of gifts who refused to hoard them to herself, but instead shared the blessing of God she carried within her. Almost 25 years ago this beautiful gem became my vocal coach as I competed for music scholarships. In those sessions, she poured more than music into me… she poured encouragement, correction, love, tenacity & security into my life. I praise God for you Mother Thompson. Thrilled you & my Granny are now hanging out together at the Heavenly praise party forever in the presence of the Master.
Bishop Gonelcha Askew, Sr. left a message on March 13, 2024:
Helen was a trailblazer, a prolific musical Levite, a mentor and an example of what it meant to "Walk in the Light!". I will cherish the many conversations we had together and our love and devotion to gospel music. Helen was real and authentic and had a no nonsense attitude about life and purpose. To say the least, she will be greatly missed on this side of heaven, but we will see her again in the New Jerusalem. She has left a large footprint in Cleveland, never to be forgotten
