Rev. James McWain, Jr. was born on February 24, 1938, to the late James Sr. and Flora McWain. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, February 23, 2020. He was 82 years old. As a young boy, James or “Jug” as he was affectionally known by many, accepted Jesus Christ as his savor at Shiloh Baptist Church.
He received his education in the Akron Public Schools, graduating from Garfield High School. He continued his education throughout his adult life graduating in 1988, from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. His relationship with Christ continued throughout his life. He was ordained as a Deacon and was called into the ministry. He became an ordained minister on February 23, 1975.
He worked for over 30 years at the Babcox and Wilcox Company retiring in the late 1990’s. He was called to be the pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Waynesburg, OH. He served as pastor for 35 years retiring in 2017. Automobiles was a passionate hobby James absolutely loved. As a young man, he enjoyed attending motor race car events. He then began to refurbish historical vehicles. These vehicles were often seen in many parades in the Akron and Canton community.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcelene; daughter, Stephanie ( Duane) Bland of Columbus, OH; son James ( Pam) McWain IV, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; brother, Gene Paul (Alma) McWain; sisters, Deloris McCall, Sheila Lenord, Tilethia Lenord; nephews, Jerome ( Leddie ) McCall, Yancey ( Sherri ) McWain; nieces, Kim ( Henry) Butler, and Charlene McWain; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
